Edgerton presents methodical research – in digestible chunks – to explain a disturbing reality about the second world war: Britain’s resources, doctrine, approach, and the debilitating events on the Eastern Front meant that victory was inevitable. Quite rightly, in Britain’s War Machine: Weapons, Resources and Experts in the Second World War, Edgerton accepts his views cause might shock and offence but it’s an exceptional piece of writing, putting our industrial, technical and military superiority under the microscope.
